La Familia Central Valley Launches “Mental Health Access Project”

La Familia Central Valley (LFCV) celebrates the successful implementation of the one-year “Mental Health Access Project” made possible through support from Senator Padilla, Senator Feinstein, and Congressman Harder. LFCV, a prominent community organization dedicated to serving the Central Valley, initiated this project to address mental health awareness and treatment needs in the region.

Over the course of the project, LFCV achieved significant milestones:

  • Orchestrated a two-part radio campaign on mental health awareness and de-stigmatization, reaching over 158,000 Spanish-speaking listeners across Merced and Stanislaus Counties.
  • Engaged over 3,000 individuals with educational materials at outreach events, including the Turlock Flea Market, laundromats, health fairs, and through partnerships with local churches, school districts, and back-to-school nights.
  • Conducted 11 presentations on mental health awareness for parents, emphasizing adolescent mental health and early intervention, as well as informing the community about mental health services available through the grant.
  • Provided bilingual mental health care services to 97 unique individuals who would not have been able to afford these services without the funding.

“We are deeply grateful to all of our elected officials who see the need for mental health services in our community, and have made it possible for La Familia Central Valley to continue to provide the needed services and support through cultural humility and compassion,” says Juan Perez, La Familia Central Valley’s Clinical Director.

Looking ahead, LFCV is committed to furthering its mission of serving the diverse communities of the Central Valley. We will soon pilot a new mobile mental health program, aiming to reach even more individuals in need of support, through funding supported by Senator Padilla.
